THE CATSKILLS FALL FOLIAGE
WEEKEND BACKPACKING ADVENTURE
Dates: October 5 - 7, 2018
State: New York
Maximum Trip Capacity: 7 people
Age Range: 18 - 39
Day 1: Charming Catskill Town
After leaving the city in the evening, we head to what I believe is the quintessential town of the Catkill Mountains. Depending on time of arrival, we may have time to explore main street.
Day 2: Waterfalls, Viewpoints & Fall Foliage
Hiking into the Eastern Catskills, we pass several viewpoints, mountain lakes and get a top view of one of New York's tallest waterfalls. All along the trails, the leaves should have their fall foliage colors on full display, including shades of red, orange and magenta.
Optional Sunrise: A short walk and early wake-up time will earn you breathtaking views of the Catskills as the sun shines its first light over the horizon.
Day 3: Leaf Peeping from the Catskill Escarpment
On this day, we make our way down the Catskill Escarpment, a ridge overlooking the Hudson River Valley. We pass several gorgeous viewpoints until we reach the end of our loop, which just happens to be situated on a mountain lake (the super adventurous may even want to take a dip). Once we finish relaxing, we grab dinner in a nearby town and get back to New York City in the evening.
