The Southern Rockies Photography Workshop

Photography Tour through Colorado & New Mexico

Itinerary

Day 1: Sandia Mountains & Pueblo Revival Architecture

Starting early in the morning, we take a scenic drive to the ridge of the Sandia Mountains. Stop in a historic New Mexican town with traditional architecture. Vineyards along the way.

Day 2: Great Sand Dunes & Taos Ski Valley

Drive into a scenic box canyon, home to a European-style ski resort town. Take sunset photographs of the tallest sand dunes in North America, all framed by the Sangre de Cristo Range in the background. Astrophotography of the Milky Way after dusk.

Day 3: Black Canyon of the Gunnison & Telluride

Witness a dramatic canyon that is known to receive only 30 minutes of light per day. Take a scenic gondola ride to an overlook with spectacular views of an old mining town turned ski resort.

Day 4: Ice Climbers & Silver Mining Town

Heading into the heart of the San Juan Mountains, we visit the most renowned ice climbing venue in the USA. We continue down a mountain road to a historic silver mining town.

Day 5: San Juan Mountains

On this day, the San Juan Mountains become our own personal playground as we shoot from various mountain passes, lakes and half-frozen waterfalls.

Day 6: Hot Springs & Mesa Verde

We start the day off heading to a photogenic geothermal hot spring (soaking is optional). Photograph the infamous cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park.

Day 7: Bisti Badlands & Shiprock

The workshop is capped off by a drive through the desolate landscape of Northwestern New Mexico as we stop at an infamous "monadnock", the most famous landmark of the region. At sunset, we reach the jumbled sandstone and mudstone formations of the badlands.
